Space Coast Wine Guild Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date:                April 26, 2007

Meeting Place:                Schecter Center

Attendance:                    22 (no guests)

Old Business:

Mary Shaw explained the blueberry picking will be delayed about another 2 weeks because the grower is still picking large amounts of berries for top dollar commercially.  Mary provided maps to the blueberry field and will notify the members once she knows the date for picking, possibly May 12.

T-Shirts.  Donna and Terri have been playing with iron transfers of a t-shirt logo, just to have something that they can wear with Space Coast Wine Guild on it.  Donna offered extra transfers to members for 50 centers each.  Betty stopped in Al’s Trophy Shop in Palm Bay and the owner told us if you have something that is fairly complete that they have someone who can complete the artwork and do set up for approximately $40.  Bill Snavely is going to try to electronically create what we have at this time.

The Brevard Rare Fruit Council plant sale will take place on Saturday, April 28.  They sell tropical trees, bushes as well as blueberries and muscadine grape plants.

Donna Thompson presented some information on credit cards, particularly those with “blink”.  This is in relation to credit card theft and stolen identity.

New Business:

Mark Stephens told us about a $5.00 wine tasting followed by a film being presented by F.I.T. at the Gleason Auditorium on Sunday, April 29.

Mark & Sue Stephens, Tom & Marjean Hull and Don Reese attended the Wine Pairing Dinner at Flying Corkscrew, which was $60 per person.  Wines were mediocre with a sample of food.

Betty Nettles reminded members about the flyer on the 50’s Dance, May 12, at Melbourne Auditorium. It is put on by the Space Coast Hot Rodders Club and is a fun time.  Bring your own wine and snacks.  There are raffle prizes and door prizes all through the evening.

The Island Boat Lines still will do a pontoon ride for $23 per person.  Betty called the company that has tours from Captain Hiram’s.  Their shortest tour is 1 ½ hours and the charge is $350/per hour.  The other tours are 2 and 3 hours which would be quite expensive.

Chef Bob is planning to cook us something yummy made with wine for our May meeting.  We will need an RSVP for that meeting for the ingredients to buy.

August should be muscadine grape picking time at the Parker’s vineyard.  Bob and Ruthann are hoping to have a good crop this year.

A motion was made to close the meeting by Mark Stephens, seconded by Andy Harrell.

Respectively submitted,

Betty Nettles
