Space Coast Wine Guild Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date:                February 22, 2007

Meeting Place:                Schecter Center

Attendance:                    14

Guests:                           Russ Cushera,  Dan Smith and Paula Furgason

Our meeting began with the reading of the January meeting minutes and the treasurer’s report.

Old Business:

Terri  Johnson emailed me regarding the artwork on the t-shirts.  She was going to show us what was improvised, however, because of Donna’s knee surgery, Terri was with her mom for support.

I checked with Chef Bob and he is planning on May 24 as our cooking demo for the club.

We reviewed plans for the picnic—gathering at noon and members to bring potluck to pass.

Betty Nettles read the winning results from the Florida State Fair and they were as follows:

New Business:

Denise Harrell told us about some other tastings that are in the area.  One is at Win-o, proprietor Mary McNeil.  They would do a private tasting for $5/per person.  This is in Cocoa near Mango Tree.  Also DeVines on Wickham.  Another is East Coast Winery in Old Melbourne.  Amy will do a free tasting if everyone commits to buying a bottle of wine.  And, of course, Green Turtle has tastings and they are quite pricey.  The Brevard Symphony Orchestra benefit tasting is Sunday, February 25, which is a very nice tasting of wines, beers and food.  The price  is $75 per person.

Mary Shaw brought in some extra EC Kraus catalogs and some magnets and business cards from Homebrew Emporium.  A motion was made by Andy Harrell to close the meeting and seconded by Don Reese.

Donnie and Betty brought some faulted wines from the Florida State Fair Competition so that all the members could smell and taste the fault.  One wine had brettanomyces which is a unicellular type of fungus, a common spoilage organism in winemaking.  ----- and the other was a corked wine, which is TCA or trichloranisol.

Respectively submitted,

Betty Nettles

Secretary, SCWG
