Space Coast Wine Guild Meeting Minutes
Meeting Date: October 26, 2006
Meeting Place: Schecter Center
Attendance: 26
Our meeting was brought to order at 7:35. The minutes of September meeting were read and accepted, along with the treasurer’s report read by Kathy Snavely.
Old Business:
Donna Thompson mentioned Murdock’s in Cocoa Village would be willing to do a wine tasting for our group for $10/person, glass included, 6-7 wines. They provide food to snack on along with the wines. We could possibly do a meeting at their facility on one of our regular meeting nights, but not until after January. An email will be sent to poll the members.
Our meeting in November will be moved to the last Thursday in November because of Thanksgiving. An email will be generated regarding that also.
The Christmas Party is scheduled for December 9 at the Schechter Center. We will need some volunteers to help with set up, food, etc. The club generally provides the meat for the party and the members bring a dish to pass. No time was decided, but the meeting room and game room are reserved for the entire day, from Noon to 1 p.m. unless some member would like to host the party in their home. We could then get a refund on the rent we have already paid on the rooms. There will be a gift exchange. If a couple attends (meaning 2), then they should bring 2 wrapped gifts. We will do a Chinese gift exchange. Price per gift should be $10 - $15 each.
Don Reese, our resident cook, volunteered to cook meat for the party, no matter where it is held motion was made by Donna Thompson for Don to do the cooking and seconded by Betty Nettles. He will price meat. Terri Johnson mentioned a place that we could buy precooked lobster. Another email will to be generated regarding food and the Party.
New Business:
Betty Nettles thanked everyone that participated in the purchase of Hot Pack juices from Walker’s fruit farm. We ended up with 20 pails ordered which allowed us all a discount on shipping as well as $5 off the price of each pail. The pails were not round 5-gallon pails as expected. Instead they were nice plastic containers with a handle that could be reused for hauling water or juice.
The Florida Today contacted Betty Nettles regarding our blurb in the Fact Book. Since our Web Site payment problems were resolved, the email account through Road Runner has been loaded with porno emails. Bill Snavely suggested we do away with that email account and use only the Gmail.
Nominations for 2007 Officers and Executive Board
President – Donnie Nettles, Terri Johnson
Vice President – Don Reese, Donna Thompson, Andy Harrell
Treasurer – Kathy Snavely. A motion was made by President Donnie Nettles to extend the Treasurer’s position to a 3-year term because of the hassle with signatures at the bank. Each year a new treasurer had been elected, we were changing the signature cards, which was a big pain in the neck for the treasurer and everyone authorized to sign checks. The motion was seconded by Terri Johnson and Kathy Snavely graciously accepted her position for another 2 years. Besides, she does a great job!
Secretary – Betty Nettles, Ruth Anne Parker, and Mary Shaw
Executive Board – Andy Harrell, Sue Stephens, Terri Johnson, Denise Harrell, Donnie Nettles, Susan Dahl.
A motion to close the nominations was made by Bill Snavely and seconded by Don Reese. Another motion to close the meeting was made by Andy Harrell and seconded by Louie Tucciaroni.
Donnie then gave a demonstration on how to balance 5-gallons of Ison wine from the finished fermented state using one bottle and adding sugar in increments according to taste. The wine had been sorbated, checked for acidity and filtered. By the way, this wine was made from the Shaw’s Ison Grape Vineyard!
Respectively submitted,
Betty Nettles
