Space Coast Wine Guild Meeting Minutes
Meeting Date: August 24, 2006
Meeting Place: Schecter Center
Attendance: 22
The meeting began at 7:45. We had one guest, Diane S. Kolodziej, a friend of Diana Monda. After the minutes were read and accepted, and the treasurer’s report read, we discussed old business.
Old Business:
Bob Parker thanked everyone for attending the grape stomp in August. He and Ruth Anne felt it was a success since they sold nearly all of their grapes. They hope to have a U-Pick Operation going by next year’s harvest. Bob gave us a little history on his River House. He actually was trying to buy some trusses from an old house in Cocoa that was going to be torn down. Instead he bought the whole house, had it cut in manageable pieces and delivered to his home in Palm Bay. He has had a pad poured, erected the walls, and put a tin roof on a very sizeable building, 38’ x 58’. He has great plans for his River House by the pond.
Betty Nettles has done some legwork on the Wine Fest in March 2007 by looking into the cost of buses from Melbourne to Savannah. The prices are at least $2,200 and higher. She also contacted a couple of travel agencies to see if they could be of any help with coordinating the trip, and possibly getting group pricing. One agency (American Scenes) was quite high--$3,600 for only the bus—everything else would be tacked on to that figure. The other agency, Apollo Travel, was cheaper and would probably be a little easier to deal with. They quoted a price per person for the bus, which included the driver’s lodging and gratuity, and a 47 passenger bus. Our problem is getting 47 people. Any less drives the price per person higher than $66.
There was no new business brought up so Donna Thompson made a motion to end the meeting, which was seconded by Susan Dahl.
After the business meeting, we had our raffle and then the Annual Sangria Tasting. There were 11 sangrias brought to the meeting and all were very tasty. We tasted them in flights of 3; each person described their concoction and also poured it. We supplied dump buckets so that we wouldn’t have either very sick or drunk people leaving the Center.
Respectively submitted,
Betty Nettles
