Space Coast Wine Guild Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date:                August 24, 2006

Meeting Place:                Schecter Center

Attendance:                    22

The August meeting was brought to order at 7:35 p.m.  Minutes of July 2006 meeting were read and accepted as well as the Treasurer’s report.  Guests for the evening were:  Lenny and Mary Shaw, Joe and Diana Monda, and Louis and Janet Tucciarone. The notes on the Grape Stomp of August 24 at Bob and Ruth Ann Parker were read by President, Donnie Nettles.

Old business:   None

New Business:

After the grape picking in August, several members realized they did not have enough acid blend to put with the Muscadine grapes in their primarys. These grapes are low in acid.  Donnie ordered an 8# container of acid blend, along with some empty containers, and then divided the acid blend into 1# containers.  The price was considerably cheaper to buy the 8# size.

Lenny and Mary Shaw have grapes at their home in Mims.  They have a beautiful vineyard and loaded with Ison 5822 grapes.  These grapes are a juice, eating and wne grape.  Anyone interested in picking should contact Lenny & Mary.  The grapes should last only a few more weeks.

Grapes are also available at the Grapes of Kath in Lake Placid.  Kathy & Roger Giller have 16 varieties of muscadine grapes.  Any interested members can contact Donnie or Betty for directions.  It is a 2 hour drive to their vineyard.

A motion was made to close the meeting and seconded.

Our theme for this meeting was learning about Riesling wines.  They are not all sweet.  Some are made dry and still exhibit a lot of aromas and flavors.  These wines were recommended by Petty’s to demonstrate the extreme differences

Respectively submitted,

Betty Nettles, Secretary
