Space Coast Wine Guild, Inc.
January 2006 Meeting Minutes
Meeting Date: January 26, 2006
Attendance: 31
At 7:40 p.m. the minutes of the October 2005 meeting and the Executive Board meeting of December 2005 were read and accepted. There was no meeting in November 2005. The treasurer’s report was read by Kathy Snavely.
Guests for the evening: Garrett Pomichter from Hometown News, Ib & Dorothy Jensen, new members who came from Texas with 20 cases of various homemade wines, and Jeff Rice and Brianne E. May.
Old Business:
The publicity for the winemaking class is moving along nicely. Donna Thompson has been coordinating the publicity and has contacted Florida Today. Betty Nettles contacted Hometown News and received a response from Garrett Pomichter who decided to come to our meeting and interview club members as well take some photos. His article should publish on Friday, February 3—most likely in the Beaches issue, but hope it will be in other issues as well.
Donna was also contacted by TV station 31 and they would like a speaker on behalf of the club to tape two 6 minute sessions showing the equipment for the winemaking class and promoting the club. Betty Nettles and Bob Parker will be the “guinea pigs” – I mean stars of the show.
Regarding the picnic with air boating, Donnie spoke with Bill Campbell and Bill decided he did not want the liability with people drinking and climbing on or off the boat.
New Business:
A motion was made to change the price of the membership dues to $30 for a married couple and $20 for an individual. However, if dues for 2007 are paid before December 31, dues will be discounted by $5, making it $25 for a married couple and $15 for an individual. The change is to encourage members to have their dues paid by January, less hassle for the Treasurer and a more accurate roster by January or February. The motion was voted on and accepted by the majority. A change will be made to the by-laws regarding the dues. Another motion was made to change the by-laws wording regarding meeting on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Instead of specifying a certain Thursday, change it to read “Meeting to be on a Thursday each month according to the availability of the meeting facility”. A show of hands was made to accept the change. The by-laws will be changed. A suggestion was made to send a reminder in September to get dues paid by December 31.
Tom Hull asked if anyone was trying to develop a local supply business of wine making equipment and supplies. He mentioned Devine Wines might be interested in carrying supplies if there was enough call for it.
Dorothy Jensen asked if we would be interested in an advertisement in the Sweet Adelines Spring Program. $25 for ¼ page or $50 for ½ page. This would reach 200 to 300 people. A ½ page ad will be submitted.
Kate Buringrud mentioned the FIT radio station coordinator that makes public announcements is another way we could advertise.
A motion was made to close the meeting and seconded.
Respectively submitted,
Betty Nettles
